Resumo (Abstract)O presente artigo trata da relação entre os aspectos astrológicos e contexto social de 2020 com a época da gripe espanhola, uma pandemia que aconteceu entre os anos de 1918 e 1920 e que, assim como a Covid-19, teve efeitos mundiais.

Se em 2020 Marte, Júpiter, Saturno e Plutão encontraram-se em Capricórnio, durante a gripe espanhola Júpiter e Plutão estavam juntos no signo oposto, Câncer, e esta é apenas uma das conexões astrológicas entre os dois períodos. Além da presença de uma pandemia tão mortal, seus impactos sociais e econômicos, bem como, por outro lado, os avanços científicos também são comuns a ambos períodos.Júpiter e Plutão, que se encontram a aproximadamente cada 13 anos, estiveram juntos no signo de Câncer em 1918, quando um tipo de vírus influenza que até então só existia nas aves sofreu algumas mutações e passou a ser transmitido aos seres humanos. Foi uma verdadeira catástrofe na época. A chamada gripe espanhola levou mais de 100 milhões de pessoas à morte. Uma gripe tão letal que provavelmente saiu dos Estados Unidos e, por conta da Primeira Guerra Mundial, foi para a Europa e, de lá se espalhou para todo mundo. Saturno e Plutão haviam se encontrado no signo de Câncer pouco antes, em 1915 e muitas tensões já vinham acontecendo no mundo desde então, como o início da Primeira Guerra Mundial, por exemplo.Em 1918, quando a gripe espanhola ganhou o mundo, Saturno, que já estava no signo de Leão, fazia uma oposição com Urano que estava em Aquário. As estruturas do mundo precisavam mudar e isso aconteceria de forma bastante significativa ainda que, infelizmente, às custas de destruição e morte em massa. O mundo estava sendo repensado naquele momento e muita coisa ainda iria mudar.A gripe espanhola perdurou dois anos, apesar de 1/3 das mortes terem acontecido em um curto período de tempo, entre setembro e dezembro de 1918. Estima-se que aproximadamente 10% de toda população jovem tenha morrido durante a pandemia.Depois de outros encontros ao longo de quase um século, alguns dos mesmos aspectos da época se repetem neste 2020 tão intenso. Em janeiro, Saturno e Plutão voltaram a se encontrar, desta vez no signo de Capricórnio, signo oposto ao da época da gripe espanhola. Júpiter veio ao encontro de ambos, para 3 conjunções exatas com Plutão ao longo do ano. Marte se uniu ao trio e entre março e abril fez conjunção com eles. Agora, no segundo semestre, em desenvolvimento a esses grandes ciclos, tem feito quadraturas que intensificam e reforçam os eventos e efeitos.Um novo tipo de coronavírus se espalhou por todo planeta e em poucos meses já provocou milhões de infecções e centena de milhares de mortes em todo o mundo. Enquanto as previsões relacionadas a uma grande conjunção entre Saturno e Plutão em Capricórnio apontavam para uma possível Terceira Guerra Mundial, o mundo entrou em guerra contra um inimigo invisível e bastante poderoso que, pelo menos até agora, não tem previsão de extinção.Saturno e Plutão conjuntos costumam trazer uma série de eventos marcantes e, entre eles, temos as doenças e pestes. Plutão, que costuma reger tudo aquilo que é muito pequeno e poderoso, inclusive com efeitos fatais e devastadores, ainda contou com os aspectos com Júpiter em detrimento no signo de Capricórnio, espalhando seus efeitos por todo o planeta. Estamos diante de aspectos intensamente complicados acontecendo simultaneamente.A maioria das vítimas em 1918 foram adultos jovens, enquanto em 2020 a população mais idosa tem sofrido os efeitos da COVID-19. Curioso, pensando sobre Saturno em Leão antes e em Capricórnio neste momento.Aspectos entre Saturno e Urano, que pedem novas configurações mundiais, inclusive em termos de produção, consumo e o sistema capitalista em si, em ambos períodos em signos fixos, forçando realmente uma mudança de postura frente aos acontecimentos vividos. Se em 1918 Saturno em Leão se opunha ao Urano em Aquário, agora Saturno chega a Aquário, enquanto Urano pede urgentes mudanças em Touro, para que o modelo econômico e os valores coletivos passem por mudanças essenciais.Outro ponto importante sobre os aspectos de 1918 e de 2020 é que são aspectos importantes para o desenvolvimento científico, tecnológico e isso inclui a medicina. O jornalista e historiador John M. Barry, em seu livro A grande gripe: a história da gripe espanhola, a pandemia mais mortal de todos os tempos, conta que a história da gripe espanhola não é apenas “o caos, a morte e a desolação da sociedade em uma guerra contra a natureza sobreposta a uma guerra contra outra sociedade humana”, mas também “uma história de ciência, de descoberta, de como se pensa e de que modo mudar a maneira como se pensa, de como, em meio ao caos quase absoluto, alguns homens buscaram a frieza da contemplação, a calma absoluta que precede não a filosofia e, sim, a ação severa e determinada”. Para ele, a gripe espanhola foi “o primeiro grande choque entre a natureza e a ciência moderna”. Penso que, de alguma maneira, estamos vivendo algo semelhante neste momento. Para o pesquisador, entre 1918 e 1920, durante a forte presença da gripe espanhola no mundo, a medicina avançou mais do que havia avançado durante séculos.Estamos, inclusive, acompanhando avanços importantes na medicina, como o surgimento de novas esperanças para tratamento do vírus HIV que, pela primeira vez, conseguiu ser isolado no organismo de um portador, por pesquisadores brasileiros. Vale lembrar que o HIV surgiu também durante uma conjunção entre Júpiter e Plutão, em 1981, no signo de Libra, o que traria grande impacto nos relacionamentos dali para frente. Urano estava no signo de Escorpião, intensificando as mudanças também em termos de intimidade nas relações, uma vez que o vírus HIV é transmitido, entre outras maneiras, através da relação sexual. Os ciclos seguintes, quando Júpiter e Plutão voltaram a fazer aspectos, bem como alguns trânsitos de Urano pelos signos fixos, trouxeram avanços importantes com relação a esse assunto, como tem acontecido neste momento.Avanços científicos como os estudos sobre tratamentos contra o HIV, de alguma maneira, nos enchem de esperanças na corrida por uma ou muitas vacinas eficientes contra o novo coronavírus que, a depender dos aspectos astrológicos promissores, devem surgir em tempo recorde. E, nesse sentido, estamos acompanhando o avanço das pesquisas e testes, na torcida para que isso de fato aconteça o mais rápido possível.Importante frisar que ao mesmo tempo que o céu de 2020 aponta para grandes tensões, isso nos leva a, de fato, repensar tudo. Com aspectos que se desenvolvem a partir do signo de Capricórnio, enquanto Urano também transita por Touro, temos uma ênfase no elemento terra, apontando para mudanças de fato estruturais. Isso inclui a forma como cuidamos do meio ambiente, como produzimos e consumimos qualquer coisa.Não é à toa que ao longo de 2020 já tivemos, inclusive, erupções de mais de 15 vulcões, como se a própria Terra estivesse a ponto de explodir, clamando por mudanças.Vale lembrar que os efeitos de uma grande conjunção permanecem por tempos determinados e que o fato de Marte estar envolvido em todas elas, deve levar seus efeitos até 2022, quando parte dos ciclos se fecham e a vida deve continuar com novos desafios e oportunidades.Não só a gripe espanhola, mas muitas das grandes pandemias e pestes anteriores tiveram um intervalo de até dois anos de caos e de tensões. Imagino que isso não será diferente dessa vez. Além disso, o desenvolvimento das conjunções entre Júpiter, Saturno e Plutão também seguem se desenvolvendo no tempo e parece ser importante aproveitar o aprendizado do momento para evitar futuras pandemias em outros pontos específicos de tais ciclos.Além disso, ao longo de todo 2021 teremos o desenvolvimento do grande ciclo entre Saturno e Urano, com o Saturno em Aquário e o Urano em Touro, em um aspecto que costuma estar presente em momentos de crises econômicas e especialmente ligado ao desenvolvimento do capitalismo. Comum, ainda, em tempos de reconstrução após crises e guerras e, ao que tudo indica, pode apontar os custos a serem pagos após uma grande pandemia.Os modelos econômicos mudando incluem novas formas de trabalho, de relação com o dinheiro e as pessoas. O surgimento de novos bancos virtuais, o aumento do trabalho em home office, o aumento dos serviços digitais passam por esses aspectos. E não deixam de ser consequências de todos esses aspectos que estamos vivendo.Temos que lembrar, ainda, sobre o fato de Saturno e Plutão conjuntos costumarem gerar um estado geral de pânico e tensão, sendo um aspecto relacionado aos medos e surtos coletivos. Ainda temos Netuno em Peixes nesse contexto, enfatizando as fantasias e surtos coletivos, potencializando o espalhamento de uma grande pandemia e, ao mesmo tempo, nos confundindo sobre o excesso de informações e, de certa forma, trazendo uma certa onda de alienação coletiva, o que Saturno e Plutão muitas vezes também costumam trazer. São períodos mais sombrios, onde o possível fim da humanidade passa a ser discutido, uma vez que sempre trazem um aumento nas mortes no mundo, ainda que por motivos diferentes.Podemos ressaltar, ainda, os movimentos conservadores e políticas mais coercitivas e extremas, que também têm se evidenciado bastante ao longo da crise mundial que estamos vivendo. Questões ligadas a fronteiras também passam a ser discutidas e, desta vez, a questão é o vírus e a necessidade de exterminá-lo.Os relacionamentos pessoais também são pauta em tempos de quarentena e isolamento social forçado ou voluntário em torno do mundo. Da ausência ao excesso de presença, as dinâmicas relacionais estão sendo revistas.Curiosamente, no início da pandemia o Nodo Norte apontava para o signo de Câncer, em oposição ao grande encontro entre Marte, Júpiter, Saturno e Plutão em Capricórnio. De alguma maneira, enquanto novas ameaças vieram dominar e assustar o mundo, os astros nos pediam para voltar pra casa, literalmente. Fomos obrigados a estar em casa, estar mais perto do nosso lar, que não deixa de representar nossas estruturas mais profundas. Não é à toa que tanto Lua como Casa 4 são ao mesmo tempo representantes da casa como das nossas estruturas emocionais. Fomos levados a descobrir como estar em casa, conhecer nossos limites e medos mais profundos – mais uma questão ligada ao Saturno e o Plutão em Capricórnio. Fomos levados a viver perdas, lutos, transformações internas, que seguem acontecendo. Ainda estamos nesse processo.Certamente é um dos momentos mais difíceis das nossas vidas, enquanto sociedade. Mas estamos juntos nisso. Todos países, todos continentes, todos os seres humanos. Conectados por eventos desafiadores, desencadeados e trazidos à tona por um inimigo invisível, um vírus que ameaça a vida de muitos de nós, nos lembrando de olhar para o que é essencial, conhecer a história, olhar para o passado para reescrever o futuro.E essa não deixa de ser uma grande oportunidade, seja de compreendermos que estamos juntos, todos no mesmo barco, cada um de nós, enquanto indivíduo e cada um de nós enquanto núcleos e cidades e países lidando com o mesmo céu de acordo com seu próprio mapa natal e estrutura interna. Uma aula de Astrologia em tempo real, do quanto o céu se reflete na Terra ou, pelo menos, narra os acontecimentos que vamos vivendo, apontando também caminhos, enquanto oferece recursos e possibilidades para cada um de nós.Muitos estão prosperando durante a crise. Outros tantos estão repensando suas vidas individuais e coletivas, compreendendo, inclusive, o quanto responsabilidade social será algo cada vez mais importante, uma vez que os gigantes estão seguindo para o signo de Aquário. Já tivemos uma prévia importante disso com o primeiro ingresso de Saturno em Aquário em 2020. O que um de nós faz, nunca teve um impacto tão intenso na vida de muitos. Netuno em Peixes já vinha nos avisando: somos todos um.Agora, daqui para a frente, é hora de termos cada vez mais consciência de tudo que está acontecendo e levar a sério a ideia de que podemos reescrever nossa história, agora, neste momento. Para isso, precisamos seguir também os nodos lunares que agora estão no eixo Gêmeos-Sagitário, para repensarmos também a forma como nos informamos, como consumimos informação e conhecimento e como nos comunicamos.Teremos novos tempos pela frente, quando todos os planetas migrarem da Terra para o Ar. Mas isso será outra história e, para que possamos de fato voar com o ar, temos que construir estruturas mais sólidas com a Terra. E para isso precisamos também aprender a respeitar os tempos e limites que têm nos sido impostos. Mais uma questão forte relacionada ao encontro de Saturno e Plutão no signo de Capricórnio.É por isso que não adianta correr. É preciso compreender a dinâmica de cada ciclo e acontecimento, reconstruindo a vida a passos lentos, porém firmes e estruturados, consistentes, rumo a um futuro de fato melhor.E essa é a grande beleza da Astrologia que, no fundo, é esse estudo dos ciclos celestes e sua relação com os acontecimentos terrestres e que nos ensina o que está por trás de cada um deles, tentando nos guiar pelos infinitos caminhos da vida.Assim, precisamos olhar para esse momento como um momento que, como todos os outros, é cíclico e traz consequências de tempos anteriores, enquanto nos leva a novos contextos, como uma eterna transição e uma vida em constante movimento.Além disso, precisamos entender que é justamente nas grandes crises que grandes avanços acontecem e é por isso que devemos seguir fazendo nossa parte para entender como aproveitar esse momento como uma chance para repensar a vida e criar um mundo mais saudável em todos os sentidos.E como a vida tem nos trazido oportunidades para esse repensar e recomeçar, inclusive pela intensa presença de movimentos retrógrados e repetição de ciclos ao longo do ano. Entre eles da própria conjunção entre Júpiter e Plutão, que farão aspectos exatos em 3 diferentes momentos ao longo do ano.A gripe espanhola matou uma quantidade considerável da população, em meio ao caos também da Guerra e de tantas coisas acontecendo ao mesmo tempo. Mas foi também um dos momentos históricos de maior avanço científico, tecnológico, de temas ligados à ciência e à medicina, além de outros desenvolvimentos que vieram em consequência do caos. Da mesma forma, esse momento deve seguir na mesma linha e é para isso que precisamos aprender a olhar.Que saibamos viver essa fase da melhor maneira possível e que nos sirva de aprendizado para vivermos melhor daqui para a frente, com a ajuda da nossa Astrologia.

The relationship between major conjunctions, the Spanish flu and COVID-19

Abstract
This article is about the relationship between the astrological aspects and social context of 2020 with the Spanish flu, a pandemic that happened between the years 1918 and 1920 and that, like Covid-19, had worldwide effects. If in 2020 Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto met in Capricorn, during the Spanish flu Jupiter and Pluto were together in the opposite sign, Cancer, and this is just one of the astrological connections between the two periods. In addition to the presence of such a deadly pandemic, its social and economic impacts, as well as, on the other hand, scientific advances are also common to both periods.
Jupiter and Pluto, who meet approximately every 13 years, were together in the sign of Cancer in 1918, when a type of influenza virus that until then only existed in birds suffered some mutations and started being transmitted to humans. It was a real catastrophe at the time. The so-called Spanish flu has killed more than 100 million people. A flu so lethal that it probably left the United States and, because of the First World War, went to Europe and from thereon spread to the whole world. Saturn and Pluto had met in the sign of Cancer shortly before, in 1915 and many tensions had been happening in the world since then, such as the beginning of the First World War.
In 1918, when the Spanish flu took over the world, Saturn, who was already in the sign of Leo, was opposed to Uranus, who was in Aquarius. The structures of the world needed to change and this would happen in a very significant way, albeit, unfortunately, at the expense of mass destruction and death. The world was being rethought at that time and much was yet to change.
The Spanish flu lasted two years, although 1/3 of the deaths occurred in a short period of time, between September and December 1918. It is estimated that approximately 10% of the entire young population died during the pandemic.
After other meetings over almost a century, some of the same aspects of the time are repeated in this very intense year of 2020. In January, Saturn and Pluto met again, this time in the sign of Capricorn, a sign opposite to that of the Spanish flu season. Jupiter met them both, for 3 exact conjunctions with Pluto throughout the year. Mars joined the trio and between March and April. Now, in the second semester, in relation to the development of these great cycles, there are squares that intensify and reinforce certain events and effects.
A new type of coronavirus has spread across the planet and in just a few months has already caused millions of infections and hundreds of thousands of deaths worldwide. While predictions related to a major conjunction between Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn pointed to a possible Third World War, the world went to war against an invisible and very powerful enemy that, at least until now, has no prediction of extinction.
Saturn and Pluto together usually bring a series of remarkable events and, among them, we have diseases and pests. Pluto, which usually rules everything that is very small and powerful, including fatal and devastating effects, still had aspects with Jupiter to the detriment of the sign of Capricorn, spreading its effects throughout the planet. We are facing intensely complicated aspects that are happening simultaneously.
Most of the victims in 1918 were young adults, while in 2020, the older population has suffered the effects of COVID-19 the most. That is curious, thinking about Saturn in Leo before and Capricorn at this moment.
Aspects between Saturn and Uranus, which call for new world configurations, including in terms of production, consumption and the capitalist system in itself, in both periods in fixed signs, really forcing a change of posture in the face of the events experienced. In 1918 Saturn in Leo was opposed to Uranus in Aquarius, now Saturn arrives in Aquarius, while Uranus calls for urgent changes in Taurus, so that the economic model and collective values undergo essential changes.
Another important point about the 1918 and 2020 aspects is that they are important aspects for scientific and technological development and that includes medicine. Journalist and historian John M. Barry, in his book The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History, says that the history of the Spanish flu is not just “chaos, death and desolation of society in a war against nature superimposed on a war against another human society”, but also “a history of science, of discovery, of how one thinks and how to change the way one thinks, how, in the midst of almost absolute chaos, some men sought the coldness of contemplation, the absolute calm that precedes not philosophy but, rather, severe and determined action”. According to Barry, the Spanish flu was “the first major clash between nature and modern science”. I think that, in some way, we are experiencing something similar at this moment. For the researcher, between 1918 and 1920, during the strong presence of Spanish flu in the world, medicine advanced more than it had for centuries.
Currently we see important advances in medicine, such as the emergence of new hopes for the treatment of the HIV virus. For the first time, Brazilian researchers managed to isolate the virus in the body of a carrier. It is worth remembering that HIV also appeared during a conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto, in 1981, in the sign of Libra, which would from thereon have a great impact on relationships. Uranus was in the sign of Scorpio, intensifying the changes also in terms of intimacy in relationships, since the HIV virus is transmitted, among other ways, through sexual intercourse. The following cycles, when Jupiter and Pluto returned to make aspects, as well as some transits of Uranus by the fixed signs, brought important advances in this matter, as it has been happening during the current moment.
Scientific advances such as these studies on HIV treatments, somehow, fill us with hope in the race for one or many effective vaccines against the new coronavirus that, depending on the promising astrological aspects, should appear in record time. And, in this sense, we are following the progress of research and tests, in the hope that this actually happens as soon as possible.
It is important to note that while the sky of 2020 points to great tensions, this is precisely what leads us to rethink everything. With aspects that develop from the sign of Capricorn, while Uranus also transits through Taurus, we have an emphasis on the earth element, pointing to structural changes. This includes how we care for the environment, how we produce and consume anything.
It is not for nothing that throughout 2020 we have even had eruptions from more than 15 volcanoes, as if the Earth itself was about to explode, calling for change.
It is worth remembering that the effects of a great conjunction remain for a certain period of time and that the fact that Mars is involved in all of them, should take its effects until 2022, when part of the cycles are closed and life must continue with new challenges and opportunities.
Not only the Spanish flu, but many of the previous great pandemics and pests had an interval of up to two years of chaos and tension. I imagine that it will be no different this time. In addition, the development of conjunctions between Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto also continues to develop over time and it seems important to take advantage of the moment’s lesson to avoid future pandemics at other specific points in such cycles.
In addition, throughout 2021 we will have the development of the great cycle between Saturn and Uranus, with Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. This is an aspect that is usually present in times of economic crises and especially linked to the development of capitalism. It is also common in times of reconstruction after crises and wars and, it seems, can point out the costs to be paid after a major pandemic.
Changing economic models include new ways of working, relating to money and people. The emergence of new virtual banks, the increase in work from the home office, the increase in digital services go through these aspects. And they are still consequences of all these aspects that we are experiencing.
We also have to remember about the fact that Saturn and Pluto jointly generate a general state of panic and tension, an aspect related to fears and collective outbreaks. We still have Neptune in Pisces in this context, emphasizing fantasies and collective outbreaks, potentiating the spread of a great pandemic and, at the same time, confusing us about the excess of information and, in a way, bringing a certain wave of collective alienation, that Saturn and Pluto often also bring. These are darker periods, where the possible end of humanity comes to discusion, since they always bring an increase in deaths in the world, although for different reasons.
We can also highlight the more conservative movements and coercive politics, which have also been very evident throughout the world crisis that we are experiencing. Border issues are also being discussed, and this time the issue is the virus and the need to exterminate it.
Personal relationships are also on the agenda in quarantine times and forced or voluntary social isolation around the world. From absence to excess of presence, relational dynamics are being revised.
Interestingly, at the beginning of the pandemic, the North Node pointed to the sign of Cancer, as opposed to the great encounter between Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Somehow, while new threats came to take over and frighten the world, the stars asked us to go home, literally. We were forced to be at home, to be closer to our home, which still represents our deepest structures. It is no wonder that the Moon and 4^th House are both representatives of the home and of our emotional structures. We were led to discover how to be at home, to know our deepest limits and fears – yet another issue related to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. We were led to experience losses, mourning, internal changes, which continue to happen. We are still in this process.
It is certainly one of the most difficult moments of our lives as a society. But we are in this together. All countries, all continents, all human beings. Connected by challenging events, unleashed and brought up by an invisible enemy, a virus that threatens the lives of many of us, reminding us to look at what is essential, to learn about history, to look to the past and to rewrite the future.
This is still a great opportunity, whether we understand that we are together, all in the same boat, each of us, as an individual and each of us as nuclei and cities and countries dealing with the same sky according to their own natal chart and internal structure. A real-time Astrology class, how much the sky is reflected on Earth or, at least, it narrates the events we are going through, also pointing out paths, while offering resources and possibilities for each of us.
Many are thriving during the crisis. Many others are rethinking their individual and collective lives, including understanding how much social responsibility will become something more and more important, since the giants are moving towards the sign of Aquarius. We already had an important preview of this with Saturn’s first entry into Aquarius in 2020. What one of us does, has never had such an intense impact on the lives of so many. Neptune in Pisces was already warning us: we are all one.
From now on, it is time to become increasingly aware of everything that is happening and to take seriously the idea that we can rewrite our history, now, at this moment. For this, we also need to follow the lunar nodes that are now on the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, to also rethink how we inform ourselves, how we consume information and knowledge and how we communicate.
We will have new times ahead, when all the planets migrate from Earth to Air. But that will be another story and, in order for us to actually fly with the air, we have to build more solid structures within Earth. And for that, we also need to learn to respect the time and limits that have been imposed on us. This is another strong question related to the encounter of Saturn and Pluto in the sign of Capricorn.
That’s why there’s no use running. It is necessary to understand the dynamics of each cycle and event, reconstructing life in slow steps, but firm and structured, consistent, towards a truly better future.
This is the great beauty of Astrology, which, in the end, is this study of the celestial cycles and their relationship with terrestrial events and which teaches us what is behind each one of them, trying to guide us through the infinite paths of life.
So, we need to look at this moment as temporary, like all others, it is cyclical and has consequences from previous times, while taking us to new contexts, like an eternal transition and a life in constant movement.
Furthermore, we need to understand that it is precisely in the great crises that great advances happen and that is why we must continue doing our part to understand how to take advantage of this moment as a chance to rethink life and create a healthier world in every way.
And how life has brought us opportunities for this rethinking and starting over, including the intense presence of retrograde movements and repetition of cycles throughout the year. Among them the very conjunction between Jupiter and Pluto, which will make exact aspects at three different times throughout the year.
